Hello, I used Far Manager before on a SE z520 on windows and it works great, I want to use Far Manager again, but now I only have GNU/Linux Ubuntu installed, so i'm here asking for the support of the software for Linux or how can I contribute to make it work on my OS. By the way, congratulations for making this software open source, i'm sure this will make it a lot better.
Greetings

Sorry, I've tried wine already and it installs OK but when it tries to run, just crush and I can't see anything. If this is the result only on the installation, imagine what could happen if Far crush out on a Phone Flashing :| =@ :Search: .
Thanks for the quick answer

I'm using last version of far manager 1.70 (the one on the index page), and wine-1.1.7. I installed far manager from default, i checked a plugins check box, I think I have default plugins. I successfully install Far, but I can't start it
When I tried to start up, it says:

Code: Select all

 wine Far.exe
err:seh:setup_exception_record stack overflow 876 bytes in thread 0009 eip 7bc3b344 esp 00230fc4 stack 0x230000-0x231000-0x330000

You are probably using either JDflasher or SEFP plugins. I doubt they would work in WINE even if FAR does.
Sooner or later, you might need to read this Announcement.
Also, please download the latest stable version here; it's much better than the version you are using.

Thanks

In this particular case, yes.

No idea. That would mean without FAR either though.

Why don't you use Midnight commander.

'cause it sucks. And the keyboard shortcuts are all messed up.
I actually got Far 2 working under Ubuntu fairly well. Download the latest alpha, remove all plugins from a previous version, replace with the alpha code and run under

Code: Select all

wineconsole --backend=user
. Then configure file associations for * to run-mailcap or gnome-open and you are good to go.
Some plugins are ported to 2.0 and work under wine, some don`t.

Far Manager for Mac OSX (Wine app)

For those who are so sick of the super old Mac Finder, here is the steps to install Far.

Install WineBottler from
http://winebottler.kronenberg.org/

WineBottler will add a default wineprefix at your home folder, mine is at "/Users/michael/Wine Files".

Copy your latest Far2 into "/Users/michael/Wine Files/drive_c/Program Files/Far2/".

Create a shell script with this single line:

Code: Select all

WINEPREFIX="/Users/michael/Wine Files" "/Applications/Wine.app/Contents/Resources/bin/wineconsole" "/Users/michael/Wine Files/drive_c/Program Files/Far2/Far.exe"
Make this script executable, and you are done.
Just run this script in your Terminal window.
Enjoy.

FAR under LINUX

Is it possible to FAR was also written under LINUX. Is there any technical or legal issue that the FAR is not developed for Linux. There is, of course, Midnite Commander clone but it's something not quite functional than the FAR.
