ctrl-C not working in FAR Mgr v3 ?

Post by samjones »

Latest post of the previous page:

I have been stuck on v1.7x of FAR manager for years, because v2.x does not have working ctrl-C ....

I just tried v3.... ctrl-C did not work.

Any chance ctrl-C and ctrl-V will be fixed in FAR mgr v3.x?

Thanks!

Why you do not use F1 button ?

Code: Select all

Copy the names of selected files to the clipboard Ctrl-Ins
(if the command line is empty)
Copy the files to clipboard Ctrl-C
   (ignore command line state)
Copy the names of selected files to the clipboard Ctrl-Shift-Ins
   (ignore command line state)
Copy full names of selected files to the clipboard Alt-Shift-Ins
   (ignore command line state)
Copy network (UNC) names of selected files to the Ctrl-Alt-Ins
   clipboard (ignore command line state)
Also you can create trivial keyboard macro to reassign Ctrl-Ins (or Ctrl-Shift-Ins) action to Ctrl-C.

Thank you!

Here is why macros do not help me:

I work on about 20 different systems. About 17 of these systems are ephemeral systems (virtual machines that come and go, often requiring that my tools be reinstalled).

I am not able to install and customize my tools. I need my tools to just install and work from the beginning.

That is why macros do not help me.

I would very much like to use newer versions of FAR. I have been stuck on v1.7x for many years. (Keystrokes like ctrl-C are simply something I expect in all the tools I use. This is a human limitation I live with.)

Thank you!

the macro is very easy to set up - Ctrl. CtrlIns Ctrl. CtrlC Enter.
And in any case when working with so many machine you should have a preconfigured Far version of your own that you use everywhere, this is especialy easy to do with Far 3.0 as settings are no longer in the registry.

How to paste a file from clipboard? Ctrl+v and Shift+Ins insert a path to the file.

Use the standard EMenu plugin: either via its menus or its command-line prefix — the former is easier to bind to a macro, the latter can be applied in the User menu (F2).

Copy & Paste command line content

Post by slepa »

Hi all.

Quite old discussion. But below is my story. Few years ago I noticed, that Copy/Past from command line is totally broken. Its kill feature for me, but i quickly find workaround (just Ctrl+O and Copy/Past works in hidden panels).
Last few years i hide panels each time I need to copy/past. I was sure this is a bug and will be resolved soon. Today my patience finished and i start to google to find a solution. And found this forum.

I never using Ctl+Ins. I'm not sure I have "Ins" button in my laptop keyboard. Its absolutely unacceptable to create new macro on each computer in each far i am using. I saw a lot of people who think, that far is broken from 2.0.

I'm sure Ctl+C must do copy selected text to buffer. At least it must show warning or help message. At least first type you press it.

Dmitry.

How does FAR get to these machines? Just add copying the macro to the user's FAR profile to install/unpack script you use.

Far 2.0 behaves exactly the same way - it copies command line on Ctrl+Ins and not on Ctrl+C. So what is broken?

Long time far manager and ctrl+ins user here. But I just realized my new notebook has no insert key either! In the end, and in my total desperation, I used the on-screen keyboard to record the macro to ctrl+c.
