slow startup time

Post by gelo » Thu 10 Jul, 2014 09:55

Slow startup of far.

When start far manager black window is for about 2- 3 sec before menu shows up it's very annoying.

Could you improve startup time ?

tested on
New install far 3 , comp 3900 and older.

Far run the slowest in first run after reboot.
I check and the results:
far /p - Fast :-)
far /m - slow
far /ro - slow
/ro /s%TEMP%\far -slow
what /p parmaeter realy do ?
Why this setting is not default ? I have installed far over 200 pc and alway first run have lag. Even on i7/8GBram/SSD/Win8.1. Far2 does not have this issue

Option /p disables all the plugins.
Come to plugins folder and delete subfolders one by one, and see if there be any difference in startup time.
(You need to exit FAR in order to delete plugin)

You should have looked this up in the built-in help first (section “Command line …”). :rtfm2:

I have tried to delate plugin by plugin. First run time increes but not so much to solve is it the plugin problem.
Could anybody test far startup time first run, and next.
First run takes much more time, and offen it takes few seconds to run.
To test it please reboot system and start far.

This issue is uncommon.
We can't reproduce it, so we can test anything about it.

Do you use any anti-virus software?
Try to disable it, or set some exception for far.exe

this problem is visible only when you run far for 1 time after reboot, on next run the black windows is visible for ~~0,1 sec.
Black windows is visible for 1 - 4 seconds difrend on various pc's. Last tested on clean installed vista without AV, but it's look the same on diffrend os.
I don't not if anybody notice this. If far needs to load something at startup and then it shows black window, before showing panels.
Disabling plugin helps but black window before panels is still annoying. If you want I can record it to show how it behave

Well, for a fraction of second I also see empty black console window.
But I do not find it annoying.
