Latest post of the previous page:

@ Maximus5 - I thought about it long and hard and finally decided to include an edit via internal editor mode in the latest version :) it is accessed via a separate entry in the plugin menu, and even provides some editor plugins to assist with the rename...also fixed the missing character bug.

@ Kildor - I've just uploaded a new version, which is now static and no longer dependant on the redists - hope that helps with the non-admin systems..

@ John Doe - It's still a bit unclear...remeber I don't use these and have no idea about the file at all...so, what about multiple files, missing files, etc. like I said, show me a small before/after file of exactly what you want - should it generate it for all files in the folder, renamed only, etc. I'm gonna need EXACT details, since I have no need for it - you gotta do the legwork if you want me to include it ;)

Some files may have descriptions (not every). If NameRe renames file without description - no change required. But if renamed file have description than we need to modify it.
files.bbs before

Code: Select all

oldname.ext description
files.bbs after

Code: Select all

newname.ext description
Plugin must check for every renamed file if it has description in files.bbs, and if it does that plugin must modify corresponding line in files.bbs.

Not exactly.
The plugin rather has to check for descriptions in files listed in “Options | File descriptions | Description list names” in the order specified there. To honor other file description options would be a plus.

Хороший плагин, судя по всему! Жаль, что я редко заглядываю в англоязычную часть форума. Только вот:
Plugin don't work on Far 2.0 build 1148 x86 & higher

NameRe v1.5.2[2009-1004] doesn't allow to enter any chars/digits in "Prefix" и "Remove (S)" fields. It happens from time to time, not always. Can anybody confirm it?

FAR 2.0.1493 x86.

Edit mode rocks! I've always wondered why FRename used all the fancy syntax in Edit mode instead of just listing all filenames in order. A must-have plugin for me!

One thing I do find myself doing quite often is changing the case of _extensions_ (lowercase) while leaving the _names_ unchanged. Unfortunately there's no quick way of doing this; have to fall back to Edit mode + regex search & replace. But at least it's possible!

The standard Case conversion plugin does this easily.

Indeed, thanks t-rex! For some reason I thought "Case conversion" only works in the editor and never even tried it in the panels. My bad.

Because it lets the user to delete lines for files that should not be renamed.

Just for example:
NameRe Edit Mode,
CtrlF7, [x] Use regexps, replace “(.*)\.ITA\.DVDMux\.XviD\-NovaRip\.mkv” with “$1.mkv”,
CtrlF7, replace “\.” with “ ”,
CtrlF7, replace “\s+” with “ ”,
CtrlF7, replace “\smkv$” with “.mkv”.

Feature request: could the template support additional special characters to cover file properties such as last modified date? E.g. "myfile--<yyyy>-<mm>-<dd>--<HH>-<MM>-<SS>./" - note the "<>" characters aren't allowed in filenames anyway, so no need to support escaping this syntax.

For boolean properties such as read-only, one might use something like: "<R|read-only|normal>", where "R" means that we're looking at the read-only property, "read-only" is the text inserted if it's true, "normal" if it's false.

Might need some further thought as to how one might pick among the three timestamps (modified, creation and access).

“<Tag|FormatString>” where Tag is either “TM”, “TC” or “TA” and Format String is as per MSDN?

Good idea, HaRT, I like that, even though I despise MS format strings for using MiXeD cAsE within dates...
