Directory size and volume free space in Bytes again?

Post by LigH »

I can enable the display of the free space on the current volume and the used space as sum of file sizes at the bottom of panel views. They used to be displayed exactly in Bytes. But since about Far v3.0.4670 (or slightly before, I guess), they are now displayed as short rounded values in intuitive magnitudes (K / M / G).

Is it possible to configure Far to still display these values exactly in Bytes, or at least with more digits (or a maximum magnitude)?

yes.

1. type far:config.
2. navigate to Panel.ShowBytes.
3. set it to boolean|true with Enter.

Ctrl-Shift-S toggles display mode/ Panel.ShowBytes.
Note that Info Panel (Ctrl-L) show mode also affected.

Ctrl-Shift-S does not work in File Panel in 3.0.4774. In Info Panel, works fine.

With /m, there are no differences.

I will provide all info in my bug report, as you suggested.

If panel width too small to show size in bytes - show mode switched automatically.
add: more precisely - show mode settings ignored and size in panels displayed with suffices.

Thank you, understood. Is there a way to quickly/temporarily see exact size of current/selected/total files in bytes? It is very useful to quickly compare two files/folders.

You might temporarily switch to a panel mode which has “[x] Fullscreen view” (e.g. “Detailed” in the default configuration). This will double the panel width and hopefully give enough space for the size to display in bytes. Or just resize the active panel by CtrlLeft/CtrlRight for it to accommodate the full size number.

Size of selected files displayed in bytes if panel width allow that.
So you just need make far window big enough to see exact file size.

You can show the file size in bytes in the panels status line, you can edit the panel mode to change what is show in the status line.
It shows the size for current file or selected files.
