F7 (Find) in command history (Alt-F8)
F7 (Find) in command history (Alt-F8)
Search dialog called through Alt-F8 doesn't disable functional key bar, and F7 shortcut for Find is still present there, but doesn't work. It would be useful to filter/search history with this shortcut.
Re: F7 (Find) in command history (Alt-F8)
Where is it common? It is not even present in history help.
The closest analog I can remember is Firefox + Chrome + Explorer + Eclipse, but they use CtrlF.
Far uses AltF7 in panels, F7 in editor, viewer and quick view. Maybe F7 as a search shortcut is not common for browsers and editors, but it is much more consistent across Far than CtrlAltF.

Re: F7 (Find) in command history (Alt-F8)
F7 etc. is for search, CtrlAltF is for incremental filtration.
Re: F7 (Find) in command history (Alt-F8)
What you call "incremental filtration" is search in a flat list. What you call "search" is the incremental filtration of directory tree.
The action that you perform in both cases *as a user* is "search". The verb to call this action is "find" (written on F7 button at the bottom) and not "launch incremental filtration".

Neither menus nor dialogs ever change or hide the key bar. The key bar just shows its previous state. This is by design. If you wish to use F7 in History just create a macro.

Re: F7 (Find) in command history (Alt-F8)
So, you don't think that it is a good idea to have consistent default shortcuts?
Re: F7 (Find) in command history (Alt-F8)
CtrlAltF is inconvenient, because it clashes with global system shortcut you'd intuitively choose for executing Far itself. I've just run into it.
Re: F7 (Find) in command history (Alt-F8)
It is not simple if CtrlAltF is used for global shortcut. Anyway, even if a macros can be created, it doesn't diminish the value of having consistent shortcuts accross interface for similar functions.DrKnS wrote:So what? Bind CtrlAltF to F7 via macro, it's pretty simple.techie wrote:because it clashes with global system shortcut

Re: F7 (Find) in command history (Alt-F8)
Folks, I do not think that this issue requires so much discussion.
Personally I use CtrlAltF to open Far Manager and I created a macro that maps CtrlAltF to Alt (and not to F7) in menus. Why should it be F7? I do not think that F7 is more consistent than any other combination just because "searching" (usually *F7) and "filtering" (I even do not know, may be Ctrl+I like in panels?) are different activities for me.

Yegor, the biggest problem with filters that they are not documented for history dialogs. That is the only place where I use them (thanks for the menus hint, though). In history dialogs there is a F-key bar at the bottom. If filters can not be added to help topics for all possible Far menus, it is possible to add F7 shortcut to key bar of history windows.
