Re: Far Manager v3.0
I have come to the conclusion that FAR for *nix is called Emacs — it also has customizable keymaps and extensible functionality.
Re: Far Manager v3.0
In the bugtracker I found today a comment to one of the topics by someone called samlyukov:
Btw. it looks like Far3 should support portable mode. It'd be very nifty feature.
Anybody knows where I download? The download section at http://www.farmanager.com/download.php?l=en is still empty?уже, фар3.

Re: Far Manager v3.0
I must admit I am still unsure what will FAR 3 bring. About the only significant change I can see is a new API and hints of configuraion being stored outside of the registry. Could someone please summarize in three or four points what they consider the biggest user-level (i.e. not API) advantage of FAR 3 compared to FAR 2? Thanks.

Re: Far Manager v3.0
Far 3.0 is not yet finished but:
1. Major changes in Far API, to improve plugin capabilities, accomodate easier API updates in the future and improve user experience.
2. Configuration stored in sqlite db. Far is fully portable. Config exportable and importable to/from xml files.
3. Viewer was basically rewritten, introducing full UTF8 support, new dump mode for viewing binary files and many related fixes.
4. "External output", providing improved capabilities (mostly by providing internal support for RGB colors, underline, italic and bold fonts) when run through ConEmu console emulator.
5. Many improvments in macros.
6. Highlighting of hard links.
7. Improved info panel.
8. Improved quick view panel.
9. Many bug fixes.

Re: Far Manager v3.0
Thanks. I guess I will give FAR 3 a try for Viewer, and maybe to a degree for portability (it will be PITA for my main computer, though, with FAR being run from a ramdisk). The others are irrelevant for me, but I can see why others might be interested.
Re: Far Manager v3.0
Is there some thing allowing usage of Far2 plug-ins with Far3?
Also some importer of old settings into Sqlite3 would make the switch less painful.

Re: Far Manager v3.0
There is a FAR3 plugin which allows FAR2 plugins to work. I don't remember the name or URL, because I didn't need it, but it was posted in the New Plugins subforum a very long time ago (a year?).

Try these Perl scripts (or compiled binaries).Anakunda wrote:Also some importer of old settings into Sqlite3 would make the switch less painful.
Re: Far Manager v3.0
Hello -- I just installed Far30b2411.x86.20120125.msi -- and when FAR started, Norton Internet security flagged the
proclist.dll as being infected -- Is there a MD5 (or any other hashing tool ) so that I can verify that I have
a good MSI file?

Re: Far Manager v3.0
If would be cool if Far 3 would have better Screens support - maybe something like the Screen Gadgets plugin (http://code.google.com/p/y-projects/), but not so ugly.
Re: Far Manager v3.0
Mainly it should have better archiving support, IMO. I don't understand why they removed excellent MultiArc plugin and ignored RAR archives, especially when FAR comes out right from workshop of RAR format author

AFAIK, arclite unpacks from RARs no worse than from other archives.Anakunda wrote:and ignored RAR archives
