Far already comes with German translation.
Is your translation based on it or completely new?

Looks completely new (or even different if possible).

Oh, I will try this one immediately.

The German translation Far Manager ships in newer versions (3.0.45xx) appears to be a lot worse than the one of earlier versions (3.0.40xx or even 2.0.x); it feels like it had been translated by a native German speaker earlier, but suddenly got translated again by an automat which does not care about the context (e.g. as a translation to always "Overwrite" an existing file, "Statt" ~ "instead" is confusing; "Ersetzen" ~ "replace" matches the meaning a lot better if you tried to avoid the German Umlaut Ü in "Überschreiben"), and does not care about sensible shortcut keys either (just one example: comparing the contents of both panes suddenly had no unique sensitive character in the German translation anymore, it was now equal to – and superseded by – swapping their sides).

So I hope that this manual translation will be closer to the original meaning again. It was pretty good in times of Far 2. I thought about translating it manually on my own, just never found the time to do so; I did not even think about reporting it earlier, and because I searched before opening another thread, I am happy that I found this thread.

Already one issue to report ... I would prefer the following translation (because it also emphasizes that both panels must display a file list, not only two panels must be available at all):

Code: Select all

//[MCompareFilePanelsRequired1]
"Zum Vergleichen von Ordnern sind"
//[MCompareFilePanelsRequired2]
"zwei Datei-Panele erforderlich."

LigH, if you can combine whatever versions (40xx, 45xx, this particular one) into something acceptable for a native speaker, we would be happy to use it as an official translation.

I will think of doing so using a tool which can show at least 3 files next to each other like columns. Should be possible with a text editor which supports MDI. Let's see what's available for Windows...

Probably quite useful. For the moment, I get along with PSPad, having 5 different files tiled horizontally.

Taking into account your feedback, I've reverted it to the earlier version, except for previously untranslated strings (assuming that any German is better than English there).
