UNC path for shared local folder

Post by washy »

Ctrl+Alt+Ins captures the UNC path of a folder, provided i have accessed that folder over the network.

it does not capture the UNC path of a local folder that i have shared. it always gives me the local path. this is awkward, because i frequently mail out links to files and need a UNC path.

if i access my own machine using a UNC path, then the capture works correctly.

for example, \\mymachine\mysharedfolder works ok, but c:\mysharedfolder does not work.

is this a bug, or do i have to do some sort of extra configuration?

According to help, it's not a bug:
3. The key combination Ctrl-Alt-Ins puts the following text into the clipboard:
* for network drives - the network (UNC) name of the file object;
* for local drives - the local name of the file taking into account symbolic links.

ah. that makes a bit of a difference.

and i'm looking at a different bit of help... i'm looking under 'Panel control commands' and see:
Copy network (UNC) names of selected files to the clipboard Ctrl-Alt-Ins
it's a pity though, cos i already have Alt+Shift+Ins to get the local path, so i don't need this dual behaviour from Ctrl-Alt-Ins.

thanks

Local2Network does the trick, at least in FAR1.
So it might fail (or not) for Unicode paths.
