FAR 3.0.3835 x64 - Multiple Instances Problem
FAR 3.0.3835 x64 - Multiple Instances Problem
Hello,
I have an issue with FAR 3.0.3835 x64, running on Windows 8.1.
When I open a second instance of FAR, settings for plugins (notable Extended Copy and Name Folders) are not loaded, instead a default
values are used. I have also noticed a delay while displaying plugin configuration menu or the disk menu.
It seems like FAR is trying it acquire an exclusive lock of some files (maybe a configuration database) and since it is not possible
in the second instance, only default values are used.
I have tried to change far.ini setting with no luck.
I can repeately simulate the problem.
Is this a know issue? Or is it there a workaround?
Thanks,
Pavol

Just in case, have you tried the latest build? (one of the rules on bug reports...)
Re: FAR 3.0.3835 x64 - Multiple Instances Problem
I have build from cca two weeks ago and I have checked the checked the changelog.
For sure I can try it out again.

Tried with the latest version 3.0.3842, exactly the same results.

Re: FAR 3.0.3835 x64 - Multiple Instances Problem
Could you reproduce the problem with some standard plugin from Far Manager distribution?
(I'm asking because I'm not familiar with Extended Copy and Named Folders).

Re: FAR 3.0.3835 x64 - Multiple Instances Problem
Hmm, I have tried several internal plugins now and it seems that they are not affected.
Funny is that both "external" plugins that I use show the same syndroms. For the reference here are the links to them

http://code.google.com/p/namedfolders/
Is it possible that there was an SDK change in the recent past that migth cause these problems?

Re: FAR 3.0.3835 x64 - Multiple Instances Problem
There should be no breaking changes in the plugins API since 2012-Nov-02 (build 2922).memring wrote:Is it possible that there was an SDK change in the recent past that migth cause these problems?
Re: FAR 3.0.3835 x64 - Multiple Instances Problem
both plugins are built in 2013 as I can see in the changelog. I'm using the latest versions.
Re: FAR 3.0.3835 x64 - Multiple Instances Problem
I can't speak for memring, but in my case, for example, these locks are NOT limited to plugins. I am getting the same behavior from Folder Shortcuts. Specifically, it tends to happen quite often that I have several FAR instances running. I decide to close one and it hangs on the black/gray console screen. The other instance will then hang if I try to use any folder shortcut, new FAR instances will hang before they properly start. I have to kill all instances before I can use new instances normally again.Shmuel wrote:Then why not report it in the plugin's forum section?
Re: FAR 3.0.3835 x64 - Multiple Instances Problem
I think I have seen such behavior elsewhere, but I was not able to deterministically simulate it. Also since I have encountered it in two different plugins in the exactly same way I thought that this is more of a core issue then a plugin specific one.
