Dear Developers and Community,
First of all, I would like to express my highest respect for the developers of Far Manager.
I have been using the program for many years and hold it in very high regard.
I am currently using Far Manager 3 with the NetBox plugin. After numerous tests, version changes, configuration adjustments, and several months of troubleshooting, I have unfortunately been unable to resolve the following issue.
I use NetBox on a daily basis in my work, and it is an essential tool for me.
While working over FTP (regardless of the server), I frequently encounter a “countdown and then connection lost” dialog box. I’ve written a small LUA script to automatically close this window, but its constant appearance is very disruptive.
In addition, NetBox occasionally crashes with a STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION error, which sometimes results in data loss.
From what I have read on the forums, I am not the only one experiencing these problems, and I understand that the development of NetBox is largely done on a voluntary basis.
I see two possible paths forward:
• I could revert to Far Manager 2 (or even 1.6), where NetBox was completely stable for me – but that would mean losing the convenient LUA-based plugin development capabilities.
• Or – if possible – I would respectfully ask whether any developer could let me know under what conditions or with what kind of support they might be willing to fix these NetBox issues and produce a stable version.
I kindly ask for your constructive suggestions or guidance on how to resolve this situation.
Thank you very much in advance for your help and for taking the time to read this.
Best regards,
Ernő

NetBox instability and connection loss in Far Manager 3
You should provide the FTP connection settings you experience this with the most often (ideally as text-only screen grabs inKErno wrote: Mon 20 Oct, 2025 18:34 While working over FTP (regardless of the server), I frequently encounter a “countdown and then connection lost” dialog box.
[ascii] tags wrapped in named [spoiler]s), and enable NetBox's detailed logging (see plug-in's Logging settings), then submit the logs when the issue happens (in a named [spoiler] again; don't forget to wipe all secrets surgically before uploading).
Statements like this are much more valuable when substantiated by direct links to the reports you mean.KErno wrote: Mon 20 Oct, 2025 18:34 From what I have read on the forums, I am not the only one experiencing these problems
Not only NetBox, but all of FAR and all its standard plug-ins, and vast majority of its plug-ins overall. And not “largely” but exclusively AFAIK.
NetBox has been considered stable for many years already. The necessary condition (not necessarily sufficient though) is that you submit a proper bug report (search the web if you are not sure what “proper” means here). Download and unpack PDB files (of the exact same FAR build) next to the respective DLLs, then as the crash happens — which supposedly causes a specialized error dialog within FAR — submit the bug report as the dialog suggests.KErno wrote: Mon 20 Oct, 2025 18:34 NetBox occasionally crashes with a STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION error
Note: in general, reporting multiple unrelated issues in one topic makes addressing any of them harder.

NetBox instability and connection loss in Far Manager 3
Thank you very much for your detailed and helpful reply, HaRT.
I really appreciate the time you took to explain clearly what kind of information and logs I should collect.
I’ll need a bit of time to gather and document all the requested data (FTP settings, logs, and crash details).
Once I have everything prepared, I’ll submit a complete bug report and share it here.
Thanks again for your guidance and for maintaining such a high standard in this community.
I’ll get back soon with the full report.
Ernő

NetBox instability and connection loss in Far Manager 3
Once you have everything ready to submit bug reports, I suggest that you use the “New issue” button in GitHub project's Issues, choose the “I have an issue with NetBox” item and then complete the form there. A link to each resulting GitHub Issue here will be helpful to make it more traceable.KErno wrote: Mon 20 Oct, 2025 19:20 Once I have everything prepared, I’ll submit a complete bug report and share it here.
I'd like to reiterate that you have to file two distinct bug reports. And there's still no guarantee they will be fixed, yet if they give enough relevant details, the chances are quite good.
